In this article, all makeup beginner girls will learn the importance of makeup setting spray and makeup remover. Also, they will learn how to use them both for makeup and skincare routines. This is the most important and last part of “how to do makeup for a beginner?” It is very important to use a makeup setting spray for long-lasting makeup, also it is equally important to take off your entire makeup using makeup remover so that you can have healthy and glowing skin in next morning.

How to choose the right setting spray for a beginner:

If you want to keep your makeup in place throughout the day, if your makeup has started to fade in the middle of the day then you need to learn about makeup setting spray. Once you have applied your makeup completely, you need to keep it in place by using makeup setting spray.

Setting spray is also known as fixing spray. It can be found in facial mist or spray form. The setting spray helps to prevent makeup meltdowns and smudges. You don’t need to do touch-ups every couple of hours. Setting spray is the finishing touch after completing your makeup look.

Like all the makeup products, you need to choose the right kind of setting spray based on your skin type and undertones. Dry skin person should avoid those sprays which contain alcohol in it. It will just dry out your skin more. Choose those setting sprays which have moisturizing properties in it to hold your makeup in place. For oily or combination skin type, you need to choose those oil-free sprays which mattify your skin very well and won’t clog your pores. Just like any other makeup product, choose your makeup fixing spray based on climate change.

Based on which kind of look do you prefer for example do you want to glow on the face kind of girl, or you just want matte finish- shine-free kind of girl? There is a setting spray for your particular preferences.

How to apply or use makeup setting spray:

First, you need to shake the spray bottle very well before using it. Then hold that bottle 6-8 inches away from your face and spray it in an X and T motion. You want to cover your whole makeup so spray it on all over the face by using it a few times more. After using your setting spray, give it time to naturally dry. Don’t overdo it otherwise you will end up ruining your makeup.

You can use this product in many ways too like you can use a setting spray to dampen your foundation sponge for blending and smoothing of the foundation evenly across your face. Some setting spray offers SPF in it so it is a great solution for protecting your skin after applying makeup.

You can spray your mist on an eyeshadow brush for the intense and bold look of your eyes. Dip the eye shadow brush in eye shadow and then spray some mist on the brush, now apply the shadow on the eyes so that it can stick to eyes for long. You will amaze to see how pigmented the color will look on you.

How to remove makeup for a beginner:

how to remove makeup using makeup remover

This is the most important step for your healthy skin. No matter how tired you are, you need to remove your makeup before going to bed. Removing makeup can help to prevent several skin problems. Removing your makeup will let your skin breathe, after keeping it throughout the day. Use makeup remover to remove your makeup. You can use micellar water, makeup remover wipes, coconut oil, or makeup remover oil, makeup remover facial sponge and cleanser.

If you are having dry skin then remove your makeup with oil-based makeup remover products which gives your skin enough moisturization. If you have oily or sensitive skin then avoid oil-based cleansers. Always use a double cleansing method.

Step 1: Start with taking off your eye makeup. It doesn’t matter whether you have applied water-proof eye makeup, or not. You should always go for an oil-based makeup remover for your eyes. Because it’s a very delicate part of your face that needs more care. Take a cotton pad. Dab some oil-based makeup remover on it. Now gently put the pad on eyes for 20-30 seconds and wipe off all makeup slowly. Starting with your eyelashes. Remove your mascara in a downward motion and then eye shadows and brow products. Never ever rub your makeup remover on and around your eyes. It is very harsh to rub your eye area skin. Take your time to remove the makeup.

Step 2: Now remove your base makeup with the help of facial makeup remover wipes. Remove makeup from face including your lips, hairline, jawline, and neck area. You can also use micellar water based on your skin type to remove makeup. Take a cotton pad and dab some micellar water on it and wipe it all over face and neck.

Step 3: Always cleanse your face with a gentle cleanser which is suitable for your skin type. Take a coin-sized cleanser on the palm of your hands. Add some water and rub it between palms and lather it on the face. Gently massage all over the face and neck for a few seconds. Now wash it off with water and pat dry your face with cotton cloth/towel.

Step 4: To close and tighten your pores, apply alcohol-free toner all over the face. Dab some toner on a cotton pad and gently press it all over the face. Toner helps to keep the balance of your skin’s ph. So never forget to apply toner.

Step 5: Now last step is to apply moisturizer on the face, neck, and eyes area to keep it hydrated. You can also use separately under eye creams. Also, don’t forget to apply lip balm on your lips to keep is soft and supple.

Some general tips:

  • Always sanitize your hands before applying any products on your face.
  • Stick to your skincare routine for healthy and glowing skin.
  • You don’t need to have or buy lots of skincare and makeup products. Buy only those products which are actually useful for you.
  • It is advisable that whoever YouTubers or influencers you are following, it’s not necessary to buy all the products recommended by them. You need to understand that it’s their job to try a lot of skincare and makeup products for their viewers. This way you can save your money also.
  • Always clean your brushes or sponges before applying makeup to prevent allergies and other skin problems.
  • Sit relaxed on the chair while applying your makeup. Keep your hands steady. The chair should be comfortable for you.
  • Avoid using expiry date products. It may harm your skin.
  • For the longevity of your lipsticks, keep it in the freeze.
  • It’s not important to do or follow full face makeup steps. It depends on your preference whether you are happy with applying just eyeliner and lipsticks.
  • Don’t blindly believe in whatever you see on social media. No one has perfect skin, its just their makeup look, the magic of camera lenses, lighting, and various filters, which gives you a perfect image.
  • Believe in yourself first. The best makeup one can wear is the smile, so never forget to smile and trust yourself.
  • Never compare yourself with others, you are so beautiful just the way you are.

How to do contour makeup for a teenage girl or beginners

In this post, you will learn how to do contour makeup for a teenage girl or a beginner. If you are new into the makeup you will understand how to apply blush, bronzer, highlighter, and lipstick makeup. This post is one of the parts of my blog on “how to do makeup for a beginner?” So read the full article for a better understanding of applying makeup for a girl.

How to choose the right bronzer shade for a beginner

how to choose right bronzer makeup for teenage girl or beginner

After determining the right undertone and skin color, you can choose your bronzer shade which is one or two shades darker than your skin tone. This is a general rule of thumb. The purpose behind choosing bronzer is to achieve a fake sun-kissed glow. The selection process of bronzer is the same as selecting your foundation.  Bronzers are available in powder, stick, cream, liquid, or bronzers with shimmer particles in it. Choose bronzer depending on your skin type, color, and undertone. For cool undertone, you can go for warm peach, taupe, or soft brown, beige. For warm undertones, you can try all warm and golden-brown colors. For neutral undertones, you can try natural brown-based colors which neither have yellow or pink shade.

If you are fair- light skin color, you can buy light rose or peach, beige taupe and pink rather than orange or red tones. Because in sunlight your skin tends to turn pink, so you need to match this result with your suitable bronzer. If you are having medium or olive complexion than you are lucky enough to play with any colors. Go for copper or earthy tones which complements your natural tan very well. Finding shades for deeper complexion is a bit tricky. Warmer shades like deep terracotta or chocolate tones with warm or blue undertones look beautiful. If you are using bronzers with shimmer particles in it then go for golden color for the best illuminating effect.

Pro-tip: If you want to use shimmer bronzer than always check with the direct sunlight that how it looks on you. Oily people have enough shine on the face so go for a matte bronzer and not for shimmer one. Too shiny look is not good for natural day time look but great for night out.

How to apply bronzer makeup for teenage girl – contouring your face for a beginner:

how to apply contour makeup for teenage girl or beginner

Contouring means to bring out warmness in your face by sculpting your face features. A popular and easy way to apply bronzer is in the shape of ‘3’ on both sides of the face but not too close to your nose area, leave a gap of two small fingers between the bridge of the nose and bronzer application in ‘3’ shape. You can try to make a fish face or a pout for better application of bronzer. Apply bronzer on those facial areas where sunlight would naturally hit. The best way to avoid the beginner’s mistake of over-applying is by building the color gradually. Apply bronzer on the forehead where it meets your hairline, bridge of the nose, the apple of your cheeks, and just under the jawline. Keep it sheer and blend as needed. Apply bronzer with a medium-size angled brush for more control. For powder, bronzer sweep the brush over powder bronzer and tap off any excess before applying it. This trick always works for any kind of powder makeup products. For cream, stick, or liquid bronzer I would suggest you, use makeup sponges or stippling brush in a stippling or dabbing motion. Apply a small amount on the sponge and stipple the product to bronze one area at a time. Apply bronzer along your jawline and temples for a slimmer effect.

Pro-tip: Always check your bronzer application in natural light. If you found that your bronzer is too dark or heavy then take a clean powder brush and blend out the excess product by rubbing the brush in a small circular motion. Always double-check and if you find out any hard edges than take slightly dampen the sponge and blend out the bronzer gently.

How to choose the right blush makeup for a beginner or teenage girl:

blush makeup for teenage girl or beginner

Again, it depends on your skin undertone and complexion. You need to choose blush on the bases of your skin type and seasonal changes also. Apply blush on the back of your hand and blend it out into the skin. Now see how your blush matches your undertone. If you have fair-pale skin than going for light or pale pink blush is good. If you have fair skin with red or pink undertones than use a blush with pink or lavender undertones. And if you have fair skin with yellow undertones than go for orange or peach undertone blush.

If you have medium complexion than go for apricot or mauve toned blush. If you want a more natural and dewy look than apply berry-toned blush.  If you have a medium-olive undertone than buy those blushes which are more on red and pink side i.e. warm, peaches, and red tones, but don’t go for yellow undertone otherwise it will make you look sick.

If you have darker skin than apply brick toned or bold raisin color blush. And if you are a dark warmer skin person than try tangerine color blush. It will look beautiful and give you a natural flush of color for a dewy makeup look.

You can play with colors and experiment with various types of blush colors by using a blush palette. You just need to experiment with colors for knowing which looks good on you. In a daytime, go for lighter shades for natural makeup look and in night-time go for a shade darker or use bold colors. I would suggest you as a beginner or a teenage girl, you first need to practice basic and natural makeup look and then go for different makeup looks.

Just like other makeup products blushes are also available in different forms like powder, cream, stick, liquid, gel, and tinted or stain blush. So, choose blush which is best suitable for your skin texture and complexion.

How to apply blush makeup for a teenage girl or a beginner:

Try small powder and fluffy brush for applying blush. Sweep brush into powder blush, tap off excess and apply on the apple of your cheeks in clockwise and back towards the temples. While applying you can smile for a better direction. For the cream blush, apply dot with fingers on the apple of your cheeks and blend it out with fingers or sponge. For stick or liquid blush, you can put small dot or draw lines on the apple of the cheeks, keep a gap of two small fingers from the bridge of the nose and blend it with sponge back towards your temples. For tinted or gel-based blush you can simply use your fingers. Always take a small amount for the application and gradually build the color and blend it well.

How to choose highlighter makeup for a teenage girl or a beginner:

highlighter makeup kit for teenage girl or beginnerThe highlighter comes in various forms and various colors too. It doesn’t mean one size fits all. Different highlighter gives different results for different undertones. The general rule of thumb is to choose one or two shades lighter than your skin. The goal of applying a highlighter is to achieve a dewy look which gives you a natural and freshly moisturized skin look. While buying your highlighter choose it in natural light only. Apply it on your cheekbones to know whether it suits you or not. Highlight your high points of face i.e. cheekbones, bridge of the nose, cupid’s bow, inner corner of your eyes, your brow bone, the center of the forehead, and chin. Also, apply highlighter on the back of your hand to see whether it suits your undertone or not.

For fair skin tone, go for shades like champagne, silver, lilac, peach, pearl, and light pink tone. It is best to avoid shades like bronze and copper. It will look fake on you. If you are medium to wheatish skin tone than go for peach or golden tones and champagne. Avoid pink tones and look for the colors which have more warmth to them. For deeper skin tone buy rich golds, copper, and bronze tones. Avoid pink tone because it will look grey on you. Avoid too many shimmers otherwise it may look ashy sometimes.

How to apply highlighter for a beginner:

how to apply highlighter makeup for teenage girl or beginner

Highlighter is a second final step. It will enhance your bone structure and give your skin a shiny boost. For a teenage girl or a beginner, a subtle glow is suitable for a natural makeup look. After practicing this, you can achieve the level of glow like a disco ball. After choosing the right highlighter shade for your skin tone, you can choose to apply highlighter on the top of the foundation or before the foundation too. For a beginner, I would suggest you, apply a highlighter on top of the foundation. But you need to know that liquid or cream highlighter can break up the foundation easily. So, in this case, mix highlighter in the foundation for a natural makeup look. For cream highlighter, you can use your fingers. For powder, you can use a blush brush or sponge, and for a more natural look, you can use a fan brush. You need to apply highlighter just above the area where you have applied your blush. If you want intense payoff than you can use dampen the sponge. For very precious areas like inner corners of eyes, brow bone, cupid’s bow, and the tip of the nose you can use a small pencil brush. Leave some gap from your bridge of the nose and apply the highlighter in ‘C’ shape and blend it. Also, don’t forget to add a subtle swipe down your nose as well.

Remember that less is more. As a beginner or a teenage girl, always use a small amount for blusher, bronzer, and highlighter application. Start with applying one layer of each of these three products. And then apply more layers for an intense look. Also, take some time and watch some YouTube videos on how to apply makeup and how to apply bronzer, blush, and highlighter. The right placing of these three products is very important.

How to choose lipstick  for a teenage girl or a beginner:

lip makeup for teenage girl or beginner

Lipstick can change your entire face look. The right lipstick will give you the best makeup look. For beautiful lipstick application, you will need good lip scrub, nourishing lip balm, lip primer, lip liner, lip brush, and your favorite color lipstick. Lipstick is available in various forms like pencils, bullets, liquid, cream, lip tints, lip kits, etc. you can choose lipsticks based on your preferences like occasion, based on outfits and makeup look, lip texture, and complexion. If you have dry lips then go for that lipstick which gives your lips complete nourishments.

How to apply lipstick or lip makeup for a teenage girl or a beginner:

Step 1: For smooth application, you first need to scrub your lips so that there are not any dry or chapped lips. Use good quality lip scrub or homemade lip scrub (research YouTube videos for this) for removing dead skin from the lips. Apply the scrub all over your lips and gently massage in a circular motion with fingers or with a soft toothbrush on the lips. Then, wipe it off with the help of tissue. It will give you smooth lips.

women applying lip balm

Step 2: Apply lip balm. Use that lip balm which gives your lips enough nourishment. If you have very dry lips, apply heavy-duty lip balm for better nourishment of your lips. Use that lip balm which stays for long on the lips so that your lips don’t feel dry. Now, wait for 5 minutes before jumping on a lip primer.

Step 3: After applying lip balm, use lip primer so that your lipstick stays for long on the lips. Primer helps to prevent your lipstick from being fade away.

Step 4: If you are having any kind of discoloration or uneven lip tone than it is necessary to apply lip base. Lip base helps to lock your lip color for longer. It also helps to prevent your lipstick from shrinking into your lips. Apply your concealer which matches your skin on the lips with the help of a small fluffy brush or flat brush. Now apply some compact powder over this to lock your lip base.

Step 5: Define your lips with the help of lip liner. Keep in mind that lip liner should match the lipstick color or one-two shades lighter than your lipstick. Lip liner will give you a more précised and defined look. It will help to shape your natural lips for a more polished look. Lip liner helps contour your lips very well. Create an “X” shape on the center of your upper lips. Now outline your natural lip line with the help of lip liner from one corner to another corner. Keep your hand steady and slowly do this process.

Step 6: Now fill in your favorite lipstick color with the help of lip brush or your fingers. You can directly apply the lip color from your lipstick as well. Now you can apply lip gloss over lip color if you wish to. This is optional if you want to wear lip gloss or not.

Pro-tip: If you have dry lips then don’t use matte lipstick, go for that lipstick which gives your lip enough nourishment. Don’t ever apply a darker shade of liner with a lighter shade of lipstick, it will just ruin your entire look.

  • If you want a matte finish look on the lips and don’t have matte lipstick then you can use cream lipstick and take tissue paper. Put it on lips and gently press against lips. It will absorb the excess lipstick. This trick will give you a matte finished lip look. Also, if you see lipstick marks on the teeth, you can put tissue paper between the lips for a few seconds and slightly press the paper between the lips. Do this for 2-3 times. This helps to prevent the lipstick marks on the teeth.
  • As a  teenage girl or a beginner, I would suggest you apply tinted balm or lip tint with fingers for a more natural and everyday look. For a night out, you can apply dark lipstick. Using your fingers for lipstick application will give you a softer look and this will look best on the beginner girls.
  • If you are confused about which lipstick color should you choose than go for nude colors for a daytime-natural makeup look. If you are still confused then you can go for red lipstick as it is a universal color that compliments every skin tone. Never apply bright colors with smokey eyes. With smokey eyes, you can apply soft or nude colors.
  • Never apply lipstick on chapped lips otherwise it will give only cracks and lines on the lips. Never try samples or testers of lipstick on the lips because its been on so many lips and cause the infection. Never apply expiry products or it will give you allergy. Also don’t give your lipstick to use anyone, it will also prevent the transformation of infection.
  • It is not necessary to follow trending makeup tricks, always do those makeup which suits you the most.

HOW TO DO MAKEUP FOR BEGINNER- Part: 1

This makeup article is going to help all beginner girl who is a teenager or are actually new into the makeup. I completely understand that you won’t have any idea about how to do makeup for beginner or how to choose makeup products and skincare products or which kind of makeup look should you create! You are curious about how to apply flawless makeup like a professional, but you should not forget that all those professional makeup artists were once a beginner like you. This article will also help to all those mothers who want to do makeup for her girl or who want to buy makeup for girl child. This article is going to be one of the longest articles, so I have divided it into four parts. So please read the full article till the end.

SKINCARE ROUTINE:

Step 1: Cleansing

So before moving on to the process of how to do makeup for beginners, you must need to understand the importance of your skincare routine. You need to cleanse your face and neck daily to have clear and radiant skin. Firstly, wash your face with mild soap or face wash and then scrub your face. For this, you need to exfoliate your skin around 2-3 times per week. Don’t forget to scrub your lips as well. Take a small amount of facial scrub and apply it all over the face and neck. Now gently scrub your face in a small circular motion for 2-3 minutes and then wash it off with normal water. This will help you to get rid of those dead skin cells and leaves your skin super soft and smooth. It will give you a natural glow also. You should use mild face wash and gentle exfoliator (face scrub) for your skin. Since you are a beginner, I would recommend you not to introduce harsh products that have a chemical peeling solution like AHA and BHA for your delicate skin. You also need to avoid those products which are loaded with lots of chemicals. This tip is really important for teenagers because they have very sensitive skin due to continuous hormonal changes. It’s a big no for you at this stage. Choose mild skincare products as per your skin’s requirements, for example, if you have dry skin choose products which are meant for dry skin only, if you have oily, acne-prone or combination skin then choose those products which are perfect for your skin type. If you wish you can double cleanse your face with the help of micellar water. Dab a small amount of micellar water on a cotton pad and wipe your face and neck. This will remove all the dirt and germs if there any.

Step 2: Apply toner

After washing your face with mild soap/facewash, you need to apply toner. This is because your pores have become large and open after cleansing, so you need to minimize them with toner. Take a toner of your choice on a cotton ball and gentle press it well all over the face. Applying toner is necessary because it will not only close your pores but also helps to clean extra dirt and oil from the pores. It also helps to restore the skin’s pH balance. Always choose toner on the bases of your skin type. Toner also helps in preparing your skin for moisturization. After applying toner, let your skin air dry for a minimum of 5 minutes and then move on to the next step. Avoid using toners which has alcohol in it. As a teenager, you have very delicate skin so it’s better to avoid alcohol-based toners or products.

Step 3: Apply moisturizer

After cleansing and toning your face, the next and most important step is to apply moisturizer on the face. I think it doesn’t matter if you have oily, dry, or combination skin, everyone needs to apply moisturizer well. This step is not only for makeup routine, but this is equally important for your skincare routine too. Always choose a moisturizer with a minimum SPF 30 or more. It will help your skin to protect from UV rays throughout the day. Everyone needs to keep their skin hydrated. It doesn’t matter if you have oily skin, you have to keep your skin hydrated so that you can have soft and healthy skin. Choose your moisturizer which is well suited for your particular skin type. Apply it all over your face and neck. Especially don’t forget to apply it around your eyes and lips. Just make sure your moisturizer should not make your skin look oily or greasy. Now, wait for 5- 10 minutes till your skin absorbs the moisturizer completely. After moisturizing, if you wish to give extra protection to your skin, you can apply separate sunscreen lotion or cream (based on your skin type) but wait for 10 minutes to be soaked by the skin before applying your makeup.

These steps are useful for a day-time skincare routine and just before applying your makeup in the day-time. I will surely write a separate article on the night-time skincare routine for beginners.

MAKEUP ROUTINE:

Once your moisturizer completely shrinks into the skin, you are ready for applying the foundation on the face. Choosing the right makeup for your skin type is a very essential step. Always respect your skin and treat it by using quality makeup products. This doesn’t mean you always have to buy high-end makeup products. There are so many good quality drugstore brands available in the market. I would recommend using organic or natural makeup products that contain mineral powder and natural ingredients. They also work best like any other makeup products available in the market. They do not contain any harsh chemicals, colors, and fragrances (which gives you irritations, allergies, and breakouts). Always use products that won’t clog your pores and keeps your skin hydrated. You can choose natural products from many mineral cosmetics available out there. If possible, give first preference to those products which has SPF in it so that it can protect your skin against sun damage. Always ask for fresh/new sample or trial pack if any available so that you can come to know whether the product is suitable for you or not.

HOW TO DO MAKEUP FOR TEENAGE GIRL OR BEGINNER:

How to do eye makeup for a beginner:

Eye makeup is an art and tricky too, which changes your entire makeup look. Understanding the right color of an eye shadow and how to apply it, will make your look fabulous. By practicing, you can master in eye-makeup like a pro. Trust me, you start with small and practice until you blend it like your favorite YouTuber.  A beginner’s kit should include an eyeshadow palette with few basic shades and right eye makeup brushes. It’s a personal preference to start your entire makeup with eyes or face.  Eye shadows are available in various forms, choose your eye shadow based on your skin type and complexion. If you have lighter or fair skin, than go for a slightly darker shade for the base color to pop the colors on eyes, and if you are having darker skin than going for a slightly lighter color than your skin for your eye makeup base. I would suggest you start your makeup with eyes first because while applying eye shadow. If there is any fall out then you can clean it with a clean fluffy brush without wondering if your face makeup will spoil or not. Also doing your eye makeup first will give you a clear frame for face makeup.  As a beginner, you should try to play with neutral colors for a natural makeup look. For a more dramatic look, you can try out a smokey eye look. For a night out, smokey eye makeup is good for a beginner.

Step 1: Start with applying moisturizer on the face including your under eyes and below brow area.

Step 2: After applying moisturizer, apply primer on your eyelids and around your eyes (including your brow area). Eye primer creates a smooth surface for your eye makeup. Use those primers which are specifically meant for eyes and if you don’t want to invest in eye primer or run out of eye primer then you can apply your face primer to your eyes also. Let it completely dry.

Step 3: After applying eye primer, apply an eye shadow base for eye makeup. You can use your foundation or concealer as a base. I would suggest you, if you are using powder eye shadows then use a cream-based base for your eyes so that you can keep your eye shadows in place for a longer time and there will be no fallout. Apply a sheer layer of your foundation or concealer on under eye area and around your eyes including your brow area for eye makeup base.

Step 4: Start with your brows. Brow products are available in different forms. Choose your desire brow product which matches your brow color or slightly lighter than your brow color. Too dark brow products will give you an unnatural look. If you want your brows to look natural than use a small amount of brow product. For sharp or well-defined eyebrows, apply some dot of concealer just under the eyebrow line and above the eyebrow line. It will give you a clear framework for your brows. Beginners should include small brow kit for the eyebrow makeup. For brow makeup, you will need a spoolie brush, eyebrow kit, and an angled brush and an eyebrow pencil.

How to do eyebrow makeup for a beginner:

Step 1:  First you need to find out your actual brow shape. For this, place a brush along the side of your nose to find out where your brows will ideally start. To find where your eyebrows will naturally end, put brush outside of your nose to the outer corner of your eyes.

Step 2: To find out whether your hair is the uneven or actual shape of your brows, comb your brow hairs up with the help of a clean spoolie brush.

Step 3: You can use an eyebrow pencil or angled brush and use small strokes to fill in your brows.  To achieve the evenest brows, avoid overly fill in the inside corners of your brows and don’t make the endpoints of brows too harsh.

Step 4: Again, comb your hair with a spoolie brush to blend out the color evenly and soften any harsh lines. To set your brows hair and keep it in place, comb the hair with tinted or colored brow gel. Choose that color which completely matches your natural eyebrow hair color.

Step 5: Now take a small fluffy brush, dip it into translucent powder and clean the area around the brows for the clear and sharp shape of the brows.

Perfectly defined brows help to frame your entire face and bring out your eyes with or without makeup.

How to apply eye shadow makeup for beginner:

After eyebrow makeup, it’s time to apply eye shadow makeup. For this, you will need some basic eye shadows and a few brushes.

Step 1: As a beginner, you want to create an everyday natural look. For this, start with 4 basic shades. You will need highlighter shade -which is lighter than your skin tone, a mid-tone which will add a pop of color to your eyes, a contouring shade that is darker than your skin tone and a black shade which will add definition to your eye makeup look. These 4 shades are best to try your hand on eye makeup. It is best to use matte eye shadow for the longevity of your eye makeup. You can use your facial highlighter and contour shade too for your eye makeup look.

Step 2: It’s important to choose the right makeup brushes for your eyes because eye brushes are different from face makeup brushes. But some beauty experts use their fingers to do the eye makeup too. But as a beginner, I would suggest you invest in some good quality eye makeup brushes. You will need one small and medium-sized blending brush to smoothly blend out the eye shadows, one small-sized eye shadow brush for precise and easier application, to create the seamless smokey effect, you will need a smudger brush.

Step 3: The starting point of applying eye shadow is the inner corners of your eyes. Take a small eye shadow brush and sweep it on the lightest shade. Gently tap off the excess product against your hand or palette before applying it. Apply it all over the eyelids. Starting from the inner corner of your eyes and stretching it outwards.  Sweep the brush back and forth all over your eyelid. Slightly fade the color higher towards the crease. When you are done with applying eye shadow, you can apply the same eye shadow color on just under the arch of your eyebrows and inner corner of the eyes to highlight them.

Pro-tip: You can dampen your brush with your setting spray or take a small bowl filled with some water and dip your brush’s tip to dampen it enough. Now sweep this brush on the eye shadow and you will be amazed at how pigmented it is!

Step 4: Now apply mid-tone shade just above the crease line with the help of a blending brush. Blending it gently from outer corners to inner corners. Apply it in outward-inward motion and blend it for a good few times. Don’t overdo it. The key to good eye makeup is the right blending. Take your time to blend out well. You can choose any color as a mid-tone from a neutral eye shadow kit that suits well with your skin and outfit. After practicing with neutral shades, you can play with more colors like peach, pink, or light orange. When you start blending out like a pro, you can play with more funky colors or any colors.

Pro-tip: Above we have found out how to find your brow shape, the same method is applicable to know that if you have overdone with eyeshadow or not.

Step 5: Next step is contouring the eyes. Put darker shade into crease. Don’t blend too high. Blend the darker shade into the crease on the outer half of the eyes. Start with the outer corner of your eyes and glide it towards the crease. Make sure you apply your contour shade below the mid-tone shade.  Do the same process for another eye. Focus on one eye at a time. When you are doing your second eye, try to match that with first eye makeup close as much as possible. And at the end match your both eye look, if there are any changes needed then make it. If the eyeshadow doesn’t match on both eyes then use your finger or take your brush or cotton swab to wipe away excess eye shadow. It will give you a more natural look.

Pro-tip: If you have hooded eyes then try to apply darker shade just above the crease to create an illusion so that your upper lids are more visible.

Step 6: Once your eyelid makeup is done, you can now jump to the bottom part of the eye makeup i.e. lower or bottom lash lines. Take a small amount of both mid-tone and a darker shade on the brush and apply it from the outer corner of the lower lash line until it meets the highlighter shade.

Step 7: For a more dramatic look try a simple smokey eye makeup look.  Sweep a dark black shadow on all over the eyelids, going from lashes to crease. The brush for this look is very important. Use the dense brush for the more pigmented look and for more natural and subtle color go for a softer brush.  And now take a mid-tone shade on the brush and apply it on your crease, apply it from the inner corner of your eyes to the outer edges of your eyes. Sweep the brush back and forth. This will help to get rid of any harsh lines and give even color look.

Step 8: Sweep the lightest shade on just below the brow line or arch of your brows and inner corner of your eyes. (as I mentioned above that lightest shade can be applied to both of this part to highlight them.) you can use a shade with a little bit of shimmer in it instead of matte one to give a nice shine to these areas. Applying highlighter on the inner corner of your eyes will make your eyes look bigger and brighter.

Step 9: Now the last step of the eyeshadow application is to blend it out with a clean brush or cotton swab if you would like to. You can use your fingers too. Blend the eye shadow up and out. Always use the brush gently up toward above your crease and out to the corner of your eyes to give your eyes ‘a lifting effect’.

Step 10: Apply eyeliner for a more dramatic look. If you choose to wear a smokey eye look, you can apply eyeliner for a more dramatic look. Eyeliners are available in various forms and colors. whether you choose to apply liquid, pencil or pen liner, gel or powder eyeliner, carefully apply liner in a thin line close to your upper lash line and stop on 2/3 of the way from the inner corner of your eyes. You can choose to apply liner thick or thin, it totally depends on your preferences and the look which you want to create.

How to apply eyeliner for beginner:

Pencil eyeliner is best for a natural or smudged eye look. Liquid eyeliners are best to create a precise look and smooth lines. It is very easy to use if liquid eyeliner is available in the form of a marker pen. If you want to draw dramatic liners than go for gel eyeliners.

How to apply liquid liner:

First, shake well the tube for a few seconds, before applying it. Now unscrew the cap and pull the brush out of the tube. If you see there is a lot of product on liner brush then wipe it across the edges of the liner tube. Now put the brush as close as possible against your upper lash line. Now applying liner in the middle of your upper lash line and move out towards the outer corner of your upper lash line. After lining the outer corner, line the inner corner of your upper lash line and connect it with the outer corner line so that you can have even lines.

Pro-tip: If you make mistake take some cotton swab and dip it into some liquid oil. You can even out or fix the liner or wipe away excess products by using the tip of the cotton swab. As a beginner, I would recommend you first use a pencil liner to draw a line on the upper lash line and then go over on this line with liquid liner for even line.

If you want to create a slightly winged eyeliner look than use tape and place it on the outer corner of the lower lash line so that it is at an angle. The tape should be right up against your outer corner of the lower lash line. And extending up towards your eyebrow. For even the application of liner, tape both sides. You can tilt the tape as per your desire. The more tilt tape will give you a more dramatic look. if you want a less dramatic look than reduce the size of tilt in your tape.

How to apply pencil liner:

You can use a pencil eyeliner in sharpen or dull form. Sharpen pencil will give you a precise line and a dull pencil tip will give you a thick line. Always use a pencil liner sharpener to sharpen it. To dull the tip of the pencil, gently rub it on tissue paper until your desired level of dullness. If you want a smooth application of pencil liner, you might need to warm it up. It will also remove the feel of hardness in the liner. If it feels soft, you might want to cool it down. A warm pencil will provide a darker and more pigmented look and a cooler pencil will provide light and softer application. Use your hair dryer on its highest setting and blow the air towards your liner for a few seconds. This will soften up the liner to give you gel-like consistency. If you want to prevent your liner from crumbling and want to cool down the liner then place the liner in the freezer for 10 minutes before applying it.

Raise the outer corner of your eyebrow with the help of your hand. Put your fingers on the outer corner of your eyebrow and gently stretch it upwards so that your eyelids couldn’t block your lash lines. Now draw a line on the upper lash line from the inner corner of your eyes and move towards the outer corner of your upper lash line. Go slowly and use small strokes to create an even line. As a beginner I would suggest you, create a tight line for a more natural look. you can use a light brown color for a more natural look. To create a tight line to your eyes, apply liner only spaces between your lashes on the upper lids. Also, don’t forget to apply liner on your lower lash line. Apply just outer half of the lower lash line for a more subtle look. For a dramatic look, you can apply liner on the entire lower line. For this, you need to put a finger on the outer corner of your lower lid and slightly pull it downwards. You can apply a light brown color for a less dramatic look.

How to apply gel liner:

Gel liners usually come in a small pot with a brush. Unscrew the pot and dip the liner brush’s tip on the gel liner pot. Gel liners tend to dry out quickly so warm it up by rubbing the pot between your palms for more easier use. Start applying liner from the inner corner of your upper lash line towards the center and now apply it from the outer corner of the eyelash towards the center of your lids. Now fill in the gap along the center of your lash line. Use small strokes to create even lines. For more pigmentation, you may need to go over it several times.

Pro-tip: If you want to create an even line, create several dots along your upper lash line, and then connect them.

Step 11: To define your lashes, apply mascara. Mascaras are available in two types i.e. water-proof and non-waterproof. If you want your lashes to look defined throughout the day, then go for waterproof mascara. Keep in mind that waterproof mascaras take more time to be removed than the normal one. Also, waterproof mascaras don’t smudge or transfer easily. Mascaras are available for different concerns like “to lengthen? Or to volumize?”  There are so many options available in the market to choose from. Mascaras are also available in various colors. Choose those mascara which suits you well. The best option is to choose black color mascara. If you want a more natural look and don’t want the color on your lashes than you can apply clear or transparent mascara which serves the same purpose without giving your lashes color.

How to apply mascara for beginner:

Mascara is a must and the last step of any eye makeup look. Mascaras make your natural lashes look fuller. Different mascaras come with different wands that give your lashes different looks. For this, you will need a lash curler, lash comb, lash primer, and mascara.

Step 1: Before applying mascara, curl your lashes to lift and lengthen your lashes. Use a good quality eyelash curler. Place a half-round part of the curler at the base of the upper lash line and close the curler and hold it in a place for 10 seconds. Be careful while curling your lashes.

Step 2: Apply eyelash primer for better-staying power. Apply one or two coats of primer on the upper and lower lashes and wait for 30 seconds before applying mascara. You can use another clean wand with small bristles for your lower lashes. Primer helps to thicken and separate the lashes for the perfect application of mascara.

Step 3: Take a mascara tube and dip the mascara wand into the tube to coat the bristles of mascara properly. Don’t repeat this again and again otherwise air will go inside the tube and mascara will look clumpy. The air inside the mascara tube will dry out the product faster.

Step 4: Coat your lashes properly.  Twist the wand out of the mascara tube and wipe off the excess product on the edges of the tube. This will help you avoid clumpy and too heavy lashes. Look up and open your eyes wide, starting from the root of your upper lashes; apply the mascara with the wriggling motion. It will give you more volume at the roots.  Now apply mascara with less product on it at the lower lash line because it is a very delicate area with smaller hairs than the upper lashes. You can use a separate clean wand with small bristles for your lower lashes.

Step 5: If your lashes are sticking together or have clumps of mascara on them than you can comb them out with the help of a clean lash comb.

Step 6: Once your first coat of mascara dries out, you can apply the second coat of mascara for more volume if you wish to add.

Step 7: If you are not satisfied with the volume which mascara gives you then again use your lash curler for added curling. Use lash curler after few minutes of mascara application. This step is optional.
